Quick Voiceover Tip: Fishing For VO Gigs

Quick Voiceover Tip: Fishing For VO Gigs. We all want more voiceover work. The key is to diversify. So let’s look at fishing. Yes…fishing.

Yeah, this is about your VO business, but let’s look at this from a fishing perspective.  You go fishing, but you only have one line in the water.  You have now determined that until a fish hits that one line, you have nothing.

The same thing is true for your VO business.  One sure truth is that opportunities will come and go.  There is no guarantee that the current gig will last forever.  Reality is that it won’t.  So, the more lines in the water mean you have options to maintain and grow your client base and the residual benefits. Ever been to a fishing pier and seen people with more than one line cast out in the water? You have now increased your odds of catching something.

Think of it this way.  If you have developed momentum in different categories and have established relationships with a big base of agencies and direct clients, it won’t matter that some aspects of your business list will ebb and flow.

Relying on just one or two handsome gigs means one or all might go away and with that goes your VO business.

More lines in the water means you must work every day to grow those relationships.  It’s not the easiest thing to do, especially when you’ve got several things going.  Don’t let the work get in the way of nurturing your future.  It’s not about what’s happening today.  It’s about what will happen tomorrow.
