“Compression Week” Continues at The Radio Lounge
Quick Voiceover Tip: What is Attack / Release?
We hope you are getting a clearer picture of what kind of compression settings are best suited to you, the voice actor. Today we look at two important compression settings.
First, let’s look at attack. This is how quickly the gain reduction kicks in. The faster the attack, the more aggressive result. Remember, we’re talking about your voice and the attack setting is minimal and should be around 15 ms (milliseconds) but for a more aggressive sound, try 30 ms for more punch.
Release is how quickly the compression let’s go. A shorter release gives your audio an edgy sound, like the compressor is working harder. A longer release gives you the benefit but with a more natural sound.
